Creature of the Folk Lore

“Have you heard the story about the Beast of Bögen, stranger?”

About a year ago while writing for the Hand of Glory-scenario for Liber Fanatica 9 I contacted Sami Uusitalo for a little help. Originally he wrote a small addition to the story. But it did not take long for this addition to take a life of its own.

The Five Truths About the Beast of Bögen is a different kind of scenario. I wont go into details as they would certainly spoil the story but I do recommend GMs out there to run it. It works with almost any campaign of WFRP and really is a great addition.

The file has been updated in the Downloads section of WFRP2.

You may also directly download it HERE as a pdf.

The adventure has stats for WFRP2 only but if someone has the opportunity to make a conversion for WFRP3 I would like to host it here also (Sami Uusitalo actually asked me to do the stats so I imagine he has nothing against someone else doing them).

***Minor Spoiler warning for Hand of Glory!***

As for the Hand of Glory – you can actually still spot where this piece was going to be added. There is a minor error in the edit of LF9 on page 73. Act 2, Encounter 1 lists two possible outcomes 2a and 2b. Only one is given though and the 2b-option is put into a small box. I would however like to encourage GMs to use Five Truths About the Beast of Bögen in this Act. Episode 3 is good for it anyway.

***End of spoilers***

Naming the Adventures

While writing a new adventure I stopped to think about how to name it. The usual way of “The something something” is used so many times that it looks even a bit silly. I got a bit carried away while thinking about this and thought of Barbarians of Lemuria by Beyond Belief Games. It is an excellent game and I can recommend it to everyone. Butchering hordes of minions has never been so fun!

In Barbarians of Lemuria all adventures are named after one of the characters (usually determined randomly). So it is Gotrek the Gladiator or Felix and The Curse of the Onyx Sword etc. It is a good way to shine some light on characters.

This got me thinking. Why wouldn’t use it in other fantasy games? After an adventure is over the GM could reveal the name of the adventure (I never reveal names before the end as they are usually too much of a give-away). Then the players could decide which character made the adventure most memorable. Giving the decision to the hands of the players is a great way to reward them for good roleplaying and allow them to think how they could make sure that the next adventure would carry the name of their character.

Just a thought though. At least I would like to remember the adventure as “Jacén de’Caradué and the Crimson Rain” or “Nils Bärherz and the Eye for an Eye”.

What do you think?

WFRP 2012 Fan-Sponsored Scenario Contest Results

Jay Hafner (aka. Emirikol/Tyridium) held a fan-scenario contest on the Fantasy Flight Games and Strike-to-Stun forums. The results have just been published:

I want to commend all of you authors and judges for your efforts on the 2012 scenario contest project. WFRP fans noticed and appreciate the attention to detail and relentless determination to release a quality product on time. We are proud to have you as part of the WFRP writing team and look forward to your future contributions.

Here are the results of voting:
Top voted: Good Neighbours by Luke Rose
2nd place: The Will of the Diseased by Jonas Richter
3rd place: The Filthy five by Stuart Watkins

Dave Allen asked that his “Of Swords and Shadows” not be ranked, but it did receive votes as well.

We will be putting the permanent product downloads on the Liber Fanatica website. If you authors have any further additions or changes to your scenarios, they can be made and updated at any time.

The authors and GMs who plan to run the scenarios would like additional feedback on the scenarios and those comments can be made in the GMs forum.

Thanks to the authors for contributing 4 SOLID scenario offerings!  Your hard work helps us all!

Jay Hafner

The contest scenarios can currently be found from HERE.

I’d like to congratulate all participants for great work and tip my hat to mr. Hafner who made this possible! Good gaming everyone!

LFIX – Perils of the Empire Released!

Now it is here!

I know I’ve been promising it for half a year but if you just go to Liber Fanatica you will notice that it really is HERE.

Ninth issue of Liber Fanatica is massive tome of adventures. It includes adventures is Mordheim, second part of the Master of Shadows campaign (written buy yours truly) and a load of smaller scenarios (some of which form even a small campaign).

In addition to adventures this issue also gives ideas and advises of who to deal with problematic players (and GMs).

You might notice that this huge beast is only the first part of the IX issue. Hopefully will finish of the second part in time and can begin to work with the 10th issue.

But for now enjoy the Perils of the Empire and do not forget to give us feedback on the whole thing in any way you see fit.

A Tale of the Frog Prince

After a successive one-shots session last night a decided to write this randomly generated adventure as a one-sheet. This is adventure was mostly influenced by the best fantasy writers of the first half of the past century and should be considered as such. It is quite a leap from your regular WFRP adventures – or quite possibly not.

The party faces a mellow mystery an unknown community and may either succumb to it or free them from their curse. But it can only happen if the characters are ready to face the dangers of the…
