LFIX – Perils of the Empire Released!

Now it is here!

I know I’ve been promising it for half a year but if you just go to Liber Fanatica you will notice that it really is HERE.

Ninth issue of Liber Fanatica is massive tome of adventures. It includes adventures is Mordheim, second part of the Master of Shadows campaign (written buy yours truly) and a load of smaller scenarios (some of which form even a small campaign).

In addition to adventures this issue also gives ideas and advises of who to deal with problematic players (and GMs).

You might notice that this huge beast is only the first part of the IX issue. Hopefully will finish of the second part in time and can begin to work with the 10th issue.

But for now enjoy the Perils of the Empire and do not forget to give us feedback on the whole thing in any way you see fit.

Tumblr Activated

As I am quite busy Tumblr-user I decided to add another blog to my ever growing blog list. The newest addition is no other than The Daily Empire’s Tumblr that is dedicated to inspirational images for WFRP players.

I would like to point out that none of the images on the said blog are mine. I try to credit their makers when possible. No challenge to the original artist or the holder of the images rights is intended.

Against better knowledge I have also allowed other users to post to this blog. Hopefully we will create a great library of inspiration for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

The permanent link for the blog is inserted in the navigation of this page.

An Ode to the Community

I am not big on personal blogging. Or blogging of any kind for that matter. But after last weekends role-playing convention (Ropecon, held in Helsinki here in Finland) I felt I have to get a couple of things out.

For the past (almost) twenty years I have played through a lot of games. When we started with Finnish translations from Lord of the Rings and Cyberpunk I would have never dreamed about a community as meaningful as Warhammer has. It is true that in those days there was not even internet but that is besides the point.

In the tender age of fifteen I was introduced to the world of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and I was completely enthralled by it immediately. It was not long until I had purchased my very first English rpg and was game mastering ridiculous adventures for my friends. During that time, almost fifteen years ago, I found that there were people sharing their experiences with Warhammer online. That was something completely new to me.

Then for some reason or another I decided to join A WFRP forum.

Now I checked my joining date from the Strike to Stun forum.  I could have sworn it was there where I was hooked to the community, but it seems I’ve registered there during our third “back to WFRP” campaign at 2006. It matters little as this however was the point where I can actually say I’ve been playing Warhammer and not just some fantasy rpg. Earlier our games run by me were high fantasy adventures with little or nothing to do with the Old World. But the immediate response to my question was one of the best feelings I’ve had during my years as GM.

After that I’ve been running all editions of WFRP (along side of other games) but one thing has always been a part of my life. I am proud to admit that I am addicted to Warhammer forums.

It is actually quite funny. We have not played a single game of WFRP in over a year but I still visit both FFG and StS forum on daily basis. In most days a lot more than once. I love to give to the community as I feel that the community has given so much for me. With no other game have I ever witnessed as open forums as with Warhammer. There is always something new and still familiar online.

All in all the meaning of this post was to give a big thank you for all you out there. Even though we are not playing Warhammer currently I just know we will get back to it someday and it is mainly because of the community. I would especially like to give a lucky charm for Gotthart von Wittgenstein who answered my question on StS forum six years ago and to G. van der Vegt who ran a succesful game of WFRP3 in Ropecon and managed to blow some more light to a dying ember of my Warhammer enthusiasm. May the dice always favor you all.

Scenario Contest to Fans from Fans

This are certainly brewing now. LF should be released any day now (hopefully), Zweihänder is coming and Emirikol (for StS’s and FFG’s forums) decided to try host his own scenario contest. Here is what he is proposing:

My Two-fold Goal: 1) Encourage authors to write WFRP scenarios through the revival of the annual scenario contest with prize(s). 2) Encourage Convention Play of the WFRP

Proposal: 3rd Edition Convention-Playable Scenario Contest:

PROPOSED Deadline: November 1st, 2012

Assumptions: It is assumed that GMs running the scenario have access to the Core set, Winds of Magic, Signs of Faith and Adventurer’s Toolkit (i.e. everything included in the Player’s Guide and GM’s Guide). References beyond those should be summarized in a sidebar where possible.

Minimum Scenario Content: Scenario must be all-new/original.  Not including pre-generated characters, the length should be from 10-40 pages or between 5000-13,000 words and be playable in 3.5-4 hours. Part-II should be added as a separate entry if scenario is expected to go over this time with additional expected play-time listed (shoot for an additional 4 hours). Adaptations to previous editions may be included in a separate appendix.

Submission Formatting Recommendations: 11 or 12 point readable fonts 2-column except for appendix, maps or handouts, and 1 inch margins maximum.

Pre-Gen Character Formatting: If pre-generated characters are included the following format is recommended: Section 1 – Character sheet, Section 2- summary of cards needed, Section 3 – Attitudes towards other PCs. It is ok to instead reference specific Liber Fanatica 7 pre-gens rather than including new ones, but you may wish to include attitudes towards other PCs section.

Formatting layout: Page 1 – Title Page with Blurb, Author(s), and legal disclaimer.  Other minimum formatting requirements: rank/career minimum expected to play, course of expected play (scenario synopsis), background, content (by Act and Encounter). It does not have to be a railroad, but it does require a “most common course of expected play.”

Stat Block: It is assumed that all GMs have the Core Boxed Set, but not the Creature Guide or Creature Vault. Monsters found in the Core Set may simply be referenced, otherwise more complete information or summary side-bar. NEED STAT BLOCK FORMAT

Judging: Liber Fanatica and anyone who wants to help, including writers who submit (can’t vote for your own).

1e, 2e adaptations: Appendices with 1e, 2e, or Zweihander adaptation stat blocks, etc. do not count towards word count.

Prizes : Each author that meets minimum standards get a copy of DLSS (official print copy, max 1) and hosted on Liber Fanatica website. Runner up gets the printed J2BFP.  Winner gets: Journey to Blackfire Pass (with cardstock pregen’s- official copy) and some gift certificates or dice or something (TBD).
